The EU-funded AWARD project concluded in June 2024 with a final event in Brussels, marking the successful completion of its research on automated logistics applications. The project focused on four distinct use cases, aiming to enhance all-weather operability through advanced sensor integration. Further details and videos of these use cases are available on the AWARD homepage.
During the final event, the core findings from the successful real-world demonstrations across all four use cases were presented. The operational data collected throughout the deployment enabled a comprehensive evaluation of the all-weather capabilities of automated freight vehicles, as well as a comparative analysis against manually operated vehicles. A key aspect of the project was the interaction with the FMS (Fleet Management System). There were also panel discussions on business models, regulatory frameworks and integration into multimodal logistics hubs.
The conference ended with closing statements from Andrea De Candido (Directorate-General for Research and Innovation), Fernando Liesa (ALICE), Nathalie Teer (EasyMile) and Sergio Escriba (CINEA), who emphasised that the end of the event was not a conclusion, but rather the beginning of further innovation and cooperation.
